At Morpho Travel Experience, we support wildlife conservation efforts in Costa Rica. Today, we’re thrilled to share the remarkable story of Antonio, a two-toed sloth rescued by the incredible team at Toucan Rescue Ranch, and his journey back to the wild. Antonio was named in honor of our popular stuffed sloth toy, sold in Rumbo Pura Vida shops, which won “Best Children’s Product 2023” at The Travel Retail Awards held in Cannes, France.
Antonio’s Rescue and Rehabilitation
On May 2, 2023, Antonio was brought to Toucan Rescue Ranch after being found alone in the wild. He was approximately 14 months old, a critical age for young sloths to be on their own, as it appeared that Antonio’s mother had abandoned him. Given his age, Antonio needed care and rehabilitation to ensure he could thrive in the wild.
For nearly 340 days, Antonio remained in the expert care of the Toucan Rescue Ranch team, where he was nurtured and prepared to regain the skills necessary for survival. After a year of rehabilitation, Antonio is finally ready for release.
